Sonic’s 30th birthday is celebrated with new games and products

Many announcements were made during the Sonic Central event of Sega, which was organized around Sonic’s 30th birthday.

Our blue hedgehog friend Sonic the Hedgehog is getting old. Almost older than our many young gamer friends, Sonic’s 30th birthday celebrations were held by Sega at the Sonic Central event. While the event wasn’t very enlightening, Sega at least confirmed the previously rumored Sonic Colors remaster and retro Sonic collection.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate

Sonic Colors previously appeared for the Nintendo DS and Switch. Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a remastered version with some additions, is coming later this year. Gaming, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | It will be released in episodes for S and Nintendo Switch. It comes out this summer.

Sonic’s new retro compilation for “new platforms” will include Sonic Origins and Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD. Sega says it expects “additional content and features” with more information to be shared later this year.

Sega also made a series of small-scale announcements during its 30th anniversary live broadcast. Added free Sonic-themed cosmetics for Two Point Hospital, as well as a Sonic: The Fighters arcade locker in Yakuza spin-off Lost.
